Dynamic Cultural Integration Theory and Treatment

A Therapeutic Modality for Individuals Living With Cultural Conflicts and Problems with Bicultural Identity Development

Dynamic Cultural Integration Therapy (DCIT) is unique in that its therapeutic goals and orientations are aligned with the values and normality of collectivistic cultures, as well as individualistic cultures. DCIT describes a specific therapeutic process in which clients can cultivate an adaptive bicultural identity through integrating the individual-oriented self and the social-oriented self.

Treatment based on DCIT will provide clients with the structure, skills, and insight needed to navigate and negotiate through cultural dilemmas. It also emphasizes the collaboration between therapists and clients in discomforting pathogenic adaptations that limit their capacity for cultural synthesis.
